Return to Panem: Hunger Games Prequel To Be Published in Spring

Author Suzanne Collins will bring readers back to Panem, 64 years before The Hunger Games story began.

The wildly successful trilogy's prequel will be published in May 2020. It does not have a final title and is currently referred to as Untitled Panem Novel. Not surprisingly, a film is possible, as well, according to published reports.

The bestselling novels launched blockbuster films."A Fuse #8 Production" blogger Betsy Bird looked back on the series last fall on the 10th anniversary of The Hunger Games' publication and re-posted her original review.

“The future of this book will go one of two ways," she wrote in 2008. "Either it will remain an unappreciated cult classic for years to come or it will be fully appreciated right from the start and lauded.”

Millions of readers loved Katniss' story, of course, and then flocked to the movies when Jennifer Lawrence embodied the character in the ensuing films. It has been four years since the final movie was released, but if social media reaction is any indication, fans who thought they had moved on from Collins's dystopian world are more than ready to return.

Scholastic will publish the prequel. Read the full press release below.
